foundations of classical oil painting
Do you want to learn the techniques of the old masters? Then you are in the right place.
The aim of my day courses are to learn the basic techniques and principles of classical indirect oil painting. To produce fast studies and solid groundings to finished work. All techniques explained can easily be adapted for portraiture, still life and landscape.
Indirect painting, or painting in layers, is a technique that was popular from the renaissance up until the mid to late 1800s and most old master work is done using similar techniques.

I start with a short discussion about oil painting, the mediums and paints used, what indirect painting actually consists of and then get into a day of painting in easy to follow stages using a simple composition portrait done by an old master that will teach the basic techniques you can practice at home.
At the end of the session you will have a set of printed notes and a finished study painting after an old master.
